Study horseracing business with practising industry professionals and gain the experience you need to succeed in the global racing business. The international horseracing industry is growing, especially in the UK, Dubai, Japan, Hong Kong, the US and Australia, and there is a range of exciting global career opportunities. This degree has been designed to prepare you to enter the industry. You’ll develop strong practical knowledge and experience, whilst making valuable contacts for your dream career. The foundation year entry provides an alternative route into degree-level study. It’s ideal for those who need to develop their knowledge and skills in order to progress to the full BA qualification. Alongside core business and racing topics, you’ll be able to tailor your degree to suit your interests and career goals. You’ll have the opportunity to delve deeper into fundamental areas of international horseracing business including hospitality, marketing, sponsorship and media. You’ll also be able to study the equine management side of the commercial racing world, developing your expertise whilst gaining practical and professional experience to enhance your CV. Throughout the course, you’ll make valuable connections that can open the doors to a range of exciting work experience and graduate employment opportunities. You’ll also have opportunities to visit horseracing yards and racecourses across the UK and further afield, which will give you valuable insights ready for your career. Modules

Our modules are developed regularly to reflect student and industry demands, ensuring you’re well prepared to enter skilled employment on graduation. The majority of courses are comprised of both compulsory and optional modules, the latter of which you'll be able to choose from to suit your interests and career goals. Most courses also include work placement learning, to help you gain essential experience for your future. Modules include: Foundation Skills Development, Academic Skills in Practice (Internship), Reviewing Literature, Foundation in Equine, Foundation of Business Enterprise and Management, Professional Development and Influence within the Equestrian Sector, Introduction to the Horseracing Industry, Equestrian Project Management, Understanding Business and Economic Environment, Understanding Business and Financial Information, Introduction to the Principles of Marketing, Professional Placement Experience, Equestrian Research in Professional Practice, Equestrian Media Relations, The International Horseracing Industry, Dissertation, Sustainability and Global Responsibility within the Equestrian Sector, Horseracing, Governance and Law. Modules are sometimes subject to change. Optional modules change each year - you can attend introductory sessions before deciding which ones to study.

International applicants

We have a strong global community, with students and staff from over 60 countries. Our dedicated International team will support you through every step of your university journey – from initial enquiry to enrolment and graduation. They’ll guide you through living and learning in the UK, making your application, visas, student finance, accommodation and much more. You’ll be welcomed to an International Orientation weekend, where they’ll arrange for you to be collected from your airport on arrival and support you to settle in to university life in your first term. Qualification requirements

In addition to the above, we require a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), to include English and Maths. We will consider equivalencies including but not limited to functional skills level 2, Irish Ordinary level, National 5s, IB standard level. We will consider combinations of level three qualifications. We welcome applications from individuals with equivalent, non-UK qualifications and mature students (over 21). We may interview as part of the application process.
