About This Course Prepare for a high-flying career as a management or company accountant. Discover the technical knowledge and communication skills that could set you on the path to being a financial director or even a CEO. This degree, offered by Norwich Business School (NBS), will prepare you to work in the heart of businesses and the decisions they make. You will learn how to influence the future of the businesses you’ll work in, coming up with new ideas and strategies, costing them, and presenting them in compelling ways. This is the day-to-day business of the management accountant, and you’ll get first-hand experience of it on this course. Accounting and management is a common route to the top of business, so if you have ambitions to go all the way, and if you don’t just love working with numbers but also with people, this degree is ideal. You don’t need to have studied business before to thrive on this degree. You just need to be diligent, accurate, numerate and a keen communicator. Overview On the BSc Accounting and Management you will gain the skills essential to working at the centre of a business’s decision-making, influencing its future direction. Your degree will prepare you for a successful career as a management accountant or financial director. You’ll learn the financial accounting skills needed to ask the right questions and collect and interpret the relevant information. You’ll also learn how to effectively present this information to decision-makers, and how to make recommendations and decisions of your own. You will take accountancy and management modules, learning important accountancy skills and management theories. You’ll also have freedom to design your own course, choosing from a wealth of optional modules so you can focus on the areas of management and accountancy that interest you most. For example, strategic management, resource management, HR management, financial accounting, audit, or tax modules. On this course you will develop your written and presentation skills, becoming a confident, passionate and persuasive communicator who can take complex accounting and financial information and present it in a way that’s simple, engaging and clear. We have a Partnership arrangement with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) who hold regional meetings, which you are invited to attend. You will graduate with examination exemptions from the CIMA. Depending on the modules you choose you’ll also have the chance to gain exemptions from other professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. In the Guardian University Guide 2020, we were ranked in the UK top 10 for Accounting and Finance and top 15 for Business, Management and Marketing. We were ranked top 15 for Marketing in The Complete University Guide 2020 and were 9th for the quality of our research and 17th overall in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) which looked at 101 institutions across the UK.
