Course summary

In the urbanised landscape we inhabit, every part has been designed or at least influenced by human beings. Take a broad view or look in detail and you will see a complex living organism that is the canvas for landscape architecture. On this course, you will explore techniques which will help you become a creative and reflective designer, primed to start a rewarding career as a chartered landscape architect. Through live projects and competitions, you will be tasked with responding to the numerous environmental challenges facing today's landscape architects. On this flexible, studio-based course, you will benefit from our multimedia studios equipped with drawing boards, computers and model-making facilities, specialist workshops. The Sustainable Technology & Landscape Resource Centre provides opportunities for hands-on practical experience. Guest lectures We often run a number of guest lectures and workshops throughout the year, both on campus and in conjunction with external organisations. The INSIDE/OUT lecture series brings together some of the most exciting names from the fields of art, architecture, design, fashion, film, music, performing arts and beyond. You can catch up on previous lectures by visiting the Leeds Arts Research Centre site. Your projects are supported through lectures, specialist workshops, small group seminars and one-to-one tutorials, together with UK and overseas study visits. You will benefit from our multimedia studios equipped with flip-top drawing boards, parallel motion boards and model-making facilities, a 24/7 library, specialist workshops and a Sustainable Technology & Landscape Resource Centre. The virtual studio (CAGD) provides a valuable learning environment particularly for part-time students and those studying at a distance. The studio provides a forum for tutor support and feedback as well as opportunities for creative dialogue with colleagues. Many students choose to undertake 'live' or practice based projects working with local community organisations or for clients such as the Amsterdam planning department and you will become part of an extensive network of landscape practitioners and researchers. Entry requirements

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of creative work related to the course for consideration as part of the application process. Applicants who have completed the BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture degree at Leeds Beckett in the last five years will not be required to submit a portfolio. Applicants who have completed our Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture will be considered for advanced entry and will only need to complete a further 60 level 7 credit points. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
