Course summary

This is a Connected Degree Portsmouth is the only University in the UK with the flexibility to choose when to do an optional paid placement or self-employed year. Either take a placement in your third year, or finish your studies first and complete a placement in your fourth year. You can decide if and when to take a placement after you've started your course. Overview Develop the skills you need to innovate and excel in the dynamic business world on this BSc (Hons) Marketing and Management course. Combining marketing topics with business management principles, you'll explore the synergistic relationship between marketing and management. Across your studies, you'll gain in-depth knowledge in areas such as consumer behaviour, marketing communications or branding while also studying business topics like accounting, business venturing or human resource management. You'll also have the chance to choose from several optional modules, meaning you can tailor your course to your own personal interests. Modules

Each module on this course is worth a certain number of credits. In each year, you need to study modules worth a total of 120 credits. For example, four modules worth 20 credits and one module worth 40 credits. What you'll study: Year 1: Core modules: -Business Accounting – 20 credits -Business Operations and Systems Management – 20 credits -Consumer Insights – 20 credits -Discovering the Business Professional – 20 credits -Managing People in Organisations – 20 credits -Marketing Principles and Practice – 20 credits. Year 2: Core modules: -Business Venturing – 20 credits -Marketing Communications – 20 credits -Marketing Research Project – 20 credits. Optional modules: -Business Analysis and Decision Making – 20 credits -Digital Marketing and Social Media – 20 credits -Event Planning and Marketing – 20 credits -Managing Product Portfolios – 20 credits -People Resourcing and Talent Management – 20 credits. Year 3: Core modules: -Strategic Management and International Management – 20 credits -Strategic Marketing in a Global Environment – 20 credits. Optional modules: -Business Consultancy – 20 credits -Business to business marketing – 20 credits -Critical Entrepreneurship Study – 20 credits -Dissertation – 40 credits -International Financial Management – 20 credits -Operations Strategy and the Supply Chain – 20 credits -Project Management for Enterprise – 20 credits -Work Based Learning – 40 credits. Placement year: Boost your employability by taking an industry-based work placement year with a relevant organisation, with support from our Business and Law Placement Office, the Careers and Employability Service and our Global Engagement Office. Alternatively, you can study abroad and enrich yourlanguage skills through a study abroad sandwich year. This is a Connected Degree. We're the only university that gives you the flexibility to choose when to take a work placement. Take it after your 2nd year, before returning to finish your studies. Or after your final year, connecting you into the workplace. If you're not sure if or when to take your placement, don't worry. You'll have plenty of time to settle into your studies and explore your options before making your choice. Changes to course content.
