Course summary
This is a one year Top up, catered for anyone who has already achieved 240 credits for example, completed a Foundation Degree or HND, The BA in Counselling Solutions is designed to equip existing practitioners to work in diverse professional settings. The course provides specific theoretical approaches linked to offering solutions targeted to assess and meet clients’ needs in answer to problems such as anxiety and depression, which are encountered in a wide range of settings. In line with the QAA benchmark statement, it will enable practitioners “to work alongside legal and ethical frameworks” and enable practitioners to consider ethical dilemmas and formulate responses and actions in an appropriate manner. This degree is validated by the University of Hull.
Modules
The BA in Counselling Solutions offer is a combination of lectures, small group work, seminars and practice skills. The course consists of: Module 1: Solutions for Depression (Solution Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and CBT) (20 Credits) Module 2: Research and Practice (online/blended, focusing on the use of the VLE) (20 Credits) Module 3: Solutions for Anxiety (Systemic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural approaches) (20 Credits) Module 4: Solutions for Complexities (addiction, trauma, the self of the therapist, difference and diversity (20 Credits) Module 5: Clinical Placement and Contemporary Practice, including 50 supervised clinical practice hours (40 credits)
Assessment method
The course offers a range of assessment strategies aimed at developing critical awareness and reflexivity in professional and personal contexts. The students ‘learning is vertically linked in order to be developmental and congruent. Assessment is designed to enable students to develop and refine their skills as reflexive practitioners according to QAA benchmarks. Summative assessment: Written assignments Presentations Seminar papers critiques Portfolio which will include a reflexive piece on practice, course learning and supervision
