This course is a joint collaboration between the University of Winchester and the Dioceses of Winchester and Portsmouth. The programme is aimed at Middle Leaders of Church Schools, or aspiring Middle Leaders, and will cover areas of Church School Leadership in practice. The modules have cross‐-diocesan and school recognition. You will develop a knowledge and understanding of key theoretical principles, research findings and professional issues, particularly associated with Christian approaches to leadership. The course will consider the nature of church schools in practice, specifically exploring questions around spirituality, collective worship and community engagement. You will also consider Church school leadership in action. The aim of this latter part of the programme is for you to explore and critically engage with a repertoire of approaches for transforming leadership of Church schools. The Postgraduate Certificate in Church School Leadership allows for a flexible range of long term and short term outcomes: Students can enrol for the two modules which comprise the PgCert Church School Leadership specifically and graduate with the named exit award after one year of study. Existing and new MA Education students can take one of the PgCert Church School Leadership modules as part of their portfolio of 120 credits, prior to the dissertation.
This is a part-time only course and is suitable for professionals currently working in an educational setting. We would normally expect our students to hold a first or second-class Honours degree or a professional qualification such as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
