Course summary

This Foundation Degree in Art is a two year full-time course (or four years part-time) with six 120 credit modules in each academic year. This programme will provide you with the technical and theoretical foundation to undertake a range of creative careers in the Film and Media production industry. It will challenge you to show innovation and creativity in the creation of media content, whilst developing your practical skills to complete moving image productions to a professional standard. The technical aspects will be underpinned with the theoretical and contextual knowledge required at this level, providing you with the academic skills needed to research and investigate topics relevant to your projects and productions. Finally, the requirement to complete collaborative projects and work-based experience which will provide further vocational focus to your learning, whilst giving you the opportunity to realise your own ideas and work within your own specialism. The programme is delivered by experienced practising media professionals and academics, all of whom have a wide range of skills and relevant industry experience. The School of Art encourages enrichment in all aspects of its delivery, including guest lectures, live briefs with external companies, trips and a comprehensive induction programme. This will hugely enhance your experience and give further vocational context to the techniques and theories you have learnt. Bradford was the world first UNESCO city of film, due to its rich film making heritage and inspirational movie making locations. This is a permanent title and gives international recognition to its status within the film making community. Recent productions made in the Bradford district include ‘The Duke’, ‘Gunpowder’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’. There are also numerous smaller film production companies that have made Bradford their home, potentially providing graduates with a valuable network to help support their employment prospects once they have completed the programme. The media production facilities are of a professional standard, giving you access to both industry standard filming and editing equipment. Our fully equipped TV studio provides the opportunity to practice and experiment with the techniques you have been taught. There are four Apple Mac suites all equipped with the full Adobe Creative suite.
