BSc Psychology (Clinical application)* course provides students with a strong foundation in psychological theory and practice, with a specialist focus on clinical psychology. It prepares students for careers in mental health, counselling and further postgraduate study in clinical psychology. As part of the course, you’ll take part in two integrated placements in Stage 2 and Stage 3, where you’ll gain hands-on experience in psychology-related or clinical settings. There’s also the option to undertake a year-long placement before your final year, giving you the chance to build deeper professional experience and develop key employability skills. With a strong focus on clinical applications, this course prepares you for a wide range of careers in mental health, education and research, or for further training in areas such as clinical or counselling psychology. Throughout the course, you’ll be taught using a combination of lectures, seminars, practical workshops and independent study. Modules
The Integrated Foundation Year (IFY) offers a new and exciting route into studying for a degree. The foundation year will be studied on a full-time basis and is aimed at supporting your transition to higher education. Years two, three and four are then studied as a standard degree programme. Stage 1a • Transition to University – Learning to Learn (Compulsory) • Investigating your subject (Compulsory) • Foundations in Psychology (Compulsory) • Negotiated Learning Project (Compulsory) The course covers core areas of psychology including biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology, with additional modules focused on clinical applications and mental health. STAGE 1b Students are introduced to foundational concepts in psychology, research methods, and begin exploring clinical topics. STAGE 2 Builds on core knowledge with deeper exploration of psychological disorders, therapeutic approaches, and advanced research skills. STAGE 3 Students undertake a dissertation and study specialist clinical modules, preparing for postgraduate training or employment. **Module information is subject to validation for September 2026 start. Assessment method
Your learning will be assessed through a variety of methods, including essays, exams, presentations, research reports and reflective portfolios. These assessments are designed to test not just what you know but how you apply your knowledge in clinical contexts. To support your studies, you’ll have full access to a wide range of resources through the university library, including textbooks, academic journals and online databases – so there’s no need to buy any books.
