Course summary

The four-year degree in Business Management with German combines the main elements (modules and teaching) of the business management programme with the study of German language and culture. The first year provides the core building blocks of management and business subjects, together with one module in German. Year two develops from this base, giving equal weighting to the business and language subjects. You will continue to focus on core Business Management modules, whilst the language component concentrates on expression, translation and business language, providing the ideal preparation for the third year which is spent abroad. Here, you will be taught level two Business Management in German. In your fourth year (having returned to Cardiff) the business and management content of the degree will be extended with three core and three optional modules, together with one module which maintains the language input. German is the native language of nearly one hundred million people. To speak German is to be part of a crucially important political, economic and cultural world. A recent survey by the UK's leading employers' organisation, the CBI, rated German as the language most valued by UK managers. Germany is considered to be the lynchpin of the European Union, making knowledge of the language as important in Brussels as in Berlin. You will develop high-level language skills with the aim of achieving near-native competency along with in-depth knowledge of aspects of the culture, history, politics and society of Germany. You will spend your third year in a German-speaking country, practising and developing your language skills. We offer German for both advanced students and beginners. Overall, the degree of Business Management with German prepares you for a career in international business with an ability to work in German as well as in English. Distinctive features
