You will be taught how practitioners that work with elite athletes, along with clinical and general populations, employ contemporary practices. Students will benefit from the use of our extensive facilities, including fitness suites, the research and development laboratory, 3G AstroTurf pitches, outdoor games area (including tennis courts) and a four-court sports hall. You will also benefit from the industry-specific experience that our lecturers have acquired, including services provided within the health and fitness industry, management of sports development structures, and consultancy work with elite sports teams. You will be invited to attend guest lectures from industry professionals, local employers and world- leading researchers from external institutions. The lower student-staff ratio also allows you to benefit from additional lecturer support that cannot always be found at other educational providers. Our research facilities consist of state-of-the-art appliances that can be used to accurately quantify physiological, biological, psychological and biomechanical parameters, along with key technical performance indicators. Our apparatus includes force platforms, Dartfish software, timing gates and blood lactate analysis equipment. This will provide you with unique and sought-after employability skills that are desirable within the industry. You will benefit from work experience opportunities that will enhance your future employment prospects; previous examples include working with the British Cycling team, coaching at local sports clubs, and assisting with teaching within the primary, secondary and further education sector. There are many progression routes, these include opportunities to achieve a full BSc Hons degree at the University of Bedfordshire, and careers in teaching in the primary, secondary, further and higher education sectors. This course also enables students to pursue employment within specialist areas, such as sports science support, PE teaching, strength and conditioning, sports and physical activity coaching, physiotherapy, sports therapy, and clinical and performance psychology.

Methods of assessment are specifically designed to replicate industry requirements and prepare you for employment and further study. Examples include: written assignments, practical assessments, biomechanical video analysis, presentations, research methods and exams.

There are no qualification requirements for this course.
Applicants must have GCSE (or equivalent) English at grade C (grade 4) or above AND - A BTEC National Diploma or other relevant level 3 qualification, preferable in a relevant subject OR - A minimum of one A Level preferably in a relevant subject OR - An Access to Higher Education Certificate. As a guideline, a typical offer would require you to obtain a UCAS tariff score of between 32 - 48 points, based on your level 3 studies.
