Course summary
Students accepted onto the BA (Hons) Fine Art Top Up programme will join our third year students in the growing arts community at our Church Street Campus, Barnsley. You will have open access to our facilities to explore and investigate your ideas, encouraging independent and critical thinking in your chosen field. A clear outline of your intention, established at interview, will form the basis of your submission through a series of negotiated projects. Critiques with staff and visiting artists will form the basis of assessments and course progression. A dissertation will support your developing portfolio of work. Students will be expected to exhibit throughout the year and complete live assignments. Our studies programme will broaden the context students place their ideas, providing a solid grounding in art history to establish a critical understanding of their developing practice. You will explore key themes, ideas and contexts focused on your areas of interest. This includes opportunities to attend extended cultural visits and excursions to exhibitions nationwide. You will be encouraged to engage with professional opportunities through submission of work to exhibitions, events and public facing opportunities to develop your professional confidence.
Assessment method
Modules will be assessed through student exhibitions, studio output, presentations and critical writing. Students will engage with a program of critiques with peers and staff in order to encourage critical thinking and analysis.
