Course summary

This course address the need for qualified engineers and offer students the chance to enter the engineering profession, get ahead in their current role or progress to further study. you will study the fundamental engineering principles alongside specialist knowledge on three pathways: Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Operations Engineering. The course has been designed to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who are able to meet the demands of employers in the engineering sector and adapt to challenges in a constantly changing world. You will be taught by expert lecturers in the state-of- the-art facilities on offer in our South West Skills Campus and will also be able to take advantage of all of the other fantastic facilities on offer at UCW, including in the new University Centre in the Winter Gardens. Those who complete the HND will be able to join the second year of a related Bachelor’s degree. The Electrical and Electronic Engineering pathway could lead to employment in areas such as acoustics, communications, defence, medical instruments, nanotechnology or robotics. The Manufacturing Engineering pathway could lead to employment in areas such as aerospace, automotive, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or plant and machinery manufacturing. The Operations Manufacturing pathway could lead to employment in areas such as quality and process improvement, industrial power and storage or industrial systems.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
