Course summary

This HND in Games Development will take you through all the stages of game development from the initial idea to the final release. You will get to look at every aspect from the history of a time period to how particles work in the wind to create special effects. The UK computer games sector is currently estimated to be worth over £7.1BN (2022) and is one of the fastest-growing media markets globally. With the accessibility of gaming via mobile devices increasing its popularity, around half the UK population plays regularly. Our two-year, BTEC (Pearson) HND Games Development course provides a broad selection of studies enabling learners to gain and develop hands-on practical digital skills combined with written assignments relating to the historical and contextual study of the video games industry. The HND in Games Development will take you through various stages of game development from initial idea generation, proposal, game design, and project management to prototype production. Successful completion of the course provides the learner with an industry-wide recognised and respected level 4 & 5 vocational qualification. The course is designed to develop and enhance transferable skills as well as specialised skills in game design and technical production in readiness for your career choice or further study within the games industry. By the end of the course, you will know how to: Develop Ideas for games Manage Media Projects Undertake Market Research Pitch and Present Use theoretical principles to design gameplay experiences and narratives Use 3D modeling software and game engines Use the Adobe Creative suite Undertake Marketing and Promotional Activities Progression After completing this course, you will have the chance to top-up to the BA (Hons) Creative Practice course, study at the Hinckley Campus and be awarded by Coventry University to complete your full degree.

Assessment method

You will be assessed through a variety of different formats, including practical skills-based tasks and written assignments which when combined will for portfolio a portfolio of work and research for a final media product.
