Set in central Cornwall in our Camborne campus students will have the opportunity to study in well-equipped laboratories using industry-standard kit. Theory and practical is heavily tailored to industry resulting in very employable graduates capable of independently working in laboratories. Theory, practical and transferrable skills are integrated through 12 modules blending knowledge, application and development so subjects are easily contextualised. The biology and chemistry themes will enable students to work in a range of laboratory settings, thus widening employment opportunities. The work based learning aspect ensures that students reflect and contextualise, reviewing current practices and carrying out root cause analysis to aid continuous improvement. The range of assessments will offer students the chance to build a portfolio of experiences including experimental design, data collection, analysis and reporting, communication techniques, and industry specific skills such as quality assurance. The course has been developed with employers to meet their needs in graduates but with a student-centred approach. Cohorts are limited so ensure students have an optimal experience in the classrooms and laboratories. This is the only course of its kind in Cornwall. Modules are taught through a range of styles including lectures, workshops, visits, guest lectures, practical’s and seminars, this keeps the experience fresh, interesting, and challenging.

Year 1 Core Modules: Cell Biology (20 credits); Biochemistry (20 credits); Introductory Chemistry (20 credits); Human Anatomy and Physiology (20 credits); Molecular and Clinical Genetics (20 credits); Key Professional Skills (20 credits). Year 2 Core Modules: Microbiology (20 credits); Bioinformatics (20 credits); Disease & Immune Response (20 credits); Biosciences in Practice (20 credits); Individual Research Project (20 credits). Year 2 Optional Modules: Pharmacology (20 credits); Environmental Chemistry (20 credits).
