Mechanical (advance manufacture) engineers design, develop, implement, and maintain advance manufacturing methods aimed at improving manufacturing industry and processes. This enables UK manufacturing to meet local and global market demands and provide cost effective, quality and timely manufacturing solutions for customers. Our hands-on course will support, prepare and give you confidence to enter an engineering career with varied and exciting prospects. You'll study engineering and manufacturing to understand their role in production processes and you'll gain expertise in product creation processes from design to end manufacture. Our foundation year option supports and enhances your knowledge to give you the skills and confidence to join the Mechanical Engineering (Advance Manufacture) course even if you don’t have the formal qualifications or experience to meet the entry requirements. It equips you with the knowledge to move into formal degree study, setting you up for future success. Our degree will prepare you for this ever-evolving sector. You’ll finish your degree with industry-ready skills, confidence and creativity to overcome the next generation of challenges. Designed and run in collaboration with business, and utilising the pioneering CDIO approach, this degree is rewarding and opens real-world career pathways. The CDIO approach is an international engineering education model, developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It allows you to learn in a practical, hands-on way to find creative, evaluated solutions to industry related engineering challenges. We are one of only handful of universities in the UK to offer CDIO. On completion of the course you'll be on track to become an Incorporated Engineer. Specialist facilities Our Verena Holmes building is home to the engineering workshop, mechatronics lab, makerspace and mechanical physics lab, complete with industry standard equipment. Location This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. A short walk away is Augustine House our award-winning library and home to a vast range of learning resources and student support teams.
