Course summary
This BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education degree is designed to ensure that you acquire the pedagogical practice needed to coach athletes across the spectrum of ages and abilities combined with knowledge of the landscape and practicalities of teaching physical education (PE) in schools. We will develop your coaching, teaching, learning and leadership skills, enabling you to become an employable graduate. You may decide to use these skills to embark on a Masters in Coaching or to apply for a postgraduate course to apply for Qualified Teacher Status. This course will also develop a range of employability skills, enabling you to enter into an extensive range of different professions (e.g., sports coaching, teaching, sports management). We will help you develop a keen understanding of your own coaching and teaching philosophy, along with providing you with industry and cultural factors that influence the wider context of sport. You will gain practical application of the theoretical underpinnings of coaching and PE teaching and have access to hands-on experiences. Physical education continues to be an important part of Government agendas, so with this in mind, you will also learn relevant and up-to-date information that is linked and mapped to the National Curriculum for Physical Education (NCPE).
