Course summary
The first year of this course is HNC Built Environment. All first year entrants will start on the HNC. Successful completion will allow you to progress onto the second year of the HND. Construction technicians are responsible for the design and implementation of a wide range of construction projects, from consultation and advisory roles to contractor-based work, in sectors such as industrial, commercial, and domestic structures; energy; infrastructure; and landmark projects, such as the Inverness College UHI Campus. The HND Quantity Surveying will specifically develop your knowledge and specialist skills in areas such as project management, Scottish law (construction), planning, managing teams, human resource in construction, sustainability, and off-site construction. Investment in the Highlands and Islands, as well as excellent links with employers such as Compass, Forestry Commission, Morrison Construction, Makar, Pat Munro, and Robertson Construction, provides exciting opportunities for our students, who are involved in live projects, placements, and employment. Delivery will focus on the strengths of the region, working in remote and sensitive areas while creating a vision for the future. You will gain contemporary vocational skills including study, research, analysis, planning and organisational skills. You will also learn to take responsibility for your own learning, and develop abilities to be flexible and work cooperatively with others.
