What is building services engineering (BSE)? Building services engineering, also called engineering services, helps clients develop systems and solve problems to provide safe and healthy environments in which people can live and work. Engineering services play an integral part in the comfort and sustainability of modern-day living. As part of your course, you'll:

  • Gain expertise in the analysis of the mechanical and electrical engineering systems within buildings
  • Study the techniques behind low-carbon design and renewable energy systems
  • Learn how to use industry standard design and energy analysis software applications
  • Turn client briefs and concept designs into reality
  • Learn how to recognise the complex needs of diverse clients and unfamiliar environments
  • Understand the role building services engineering plays in providing efficient and cost-effective solutions to the climate crisis
  • Understand the life cycle and performance of buildings and their impact on the wider environment
  • Learn project management techniques for the built environment
Integrated master’s option You could choose to study this course as an integrated masters programme. You’ll gain relevant work experience and the opportunity to work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer. Professional development opportunities You’ll be part of an exciting, professionally driven study environment, and you’ll attend talks from industry leaders and guest lecturers. These will be hosted by Leeds Beckett University for CIBSE and are excellent professional development sessions. The talks will give you the opportunity to network, along with access to employers and the chance to learn from experts in the field. Industry links In your final year, you’ll complete a major project. Your assessment panel for this project contains industry professionals. They’ll give you valuable, professional feedback on your work. Boost your prospects You’ll enhance your employability prospects to companies around the world upon completion of this course. You’ll gain relevant experience in the industry and will be able to apply for associate membership of CIBSE and attain Incorporated Engineer Status.
