Course summary

Are you a current or aspiring health or social care professional looking to take the next steps in your career? Or are you keen to develop your deep interest in the growing sectors of health and social care and the role they play in wider society? Our new BSc Health and Social Care and Management is especially designed to help you achieve these goals. It will provide you with a strong academic grounding in:

  • the national and international context of health and social care
  • the inequalities that shape changing needs
  • the policies that respond to them.
Alongside this, the BSc Health and Social Care and Management will provide you with training in key management and business concepts, grounded in the day-to-day reality of working in different types of organisation. This will help support your career in a managerial role, or support you in progressing towards this. Taught by academic experts from the social sciences and our Business School, this degree will enable you to gain work-relevant skills and develop academic expertise through course content that has been planned to address real-world problems. This degree will also open up a range of exciting employment opportunities, helping you to build a career that makes meaningful changes in people’s lives. If you opt for the Foundation Year route, this will fully prepare you for undergraduate study. It is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied the relevant subjects, or if you didn't achieve the grades you need for a place on your chosen undergraduate degree. Assessment method

You will be assessed through group work, writing for policy makers and oral presentations as well as more traditional academic essays or reports. You will also have the opportunity to carry out a substantial piece of independent work on a health and social care topic of your choice.

International applicants

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.
