Why study MA Social Justice in Education at Goldsmiths On this Master’s programme, you will engage with current issues and pivotal questions to deepen your understanding of social justice in education.

  • This programme will support you in critically investigating current research relating to how education can support issues of social justice
  • You will explore a range of issues related to identity, such as gender and race equity, neurodiversity, and language, and those related to practice, including leadership, policy, and early years teaching
  • If you wish to, the programme’s unique modular structure allows you to specialise in an area of study, such as identity and social justice, teaching and learning as well as language and culture in education
  • If you do not come from an education background, this programme may also serve as a route to 'convert' from your original discipline to the study of education and the embedding of social justice in education
  • Join a diverse cohort of students from a range of backgrounds, including educators at all levels and those interested more broadly in education and related fields, such as youth work, museum education, as well as those who work with charities and NGOs focused on children and young people

Modules

Compulsory modules: Introduction to Social Justice in Education Researching Social Justice in Education Race, Culture and Education Dissertation Optional modules You will also choose 30-credits of optional modules, chosen from a list provided by the Department of Educational Studies. Please note that due to staff research commitments not all of these modules may be available every year.

Assessment method

All taught modules are assessed through methods that includes written assignments, oral presentations and slide/poster presentations.


Entry requirements

You should have (or expect to be awarded) an undergraduate degree of at least second class standard in a relevant/related subject, together with appropriate voluntary or professional (paid) experience in education or community work. If you are looking to move into the education field, other qualifications of equivalent level will be considered if you can demonstrate academic strength and relevant professional experience. International qualifications We accept a wide range of international qualifications. If your first language is not English, you will need a minimum score of 6.5 overall in IELTS or equivalent. This includes a 6.5 in writing as part of the overall score.
