Successful completion of the programme leads to recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status. This programme provides an exciting opportunity to study English at degree level while training to become an outstanding professional teacher. If you are passionate about English, it will enable you to study the subject in detail and begin the journey towards becoming a secondary school English teacher. You will benefit from being trained by excellent practitioners both in schools and in our high quality facilities. You will receive individually tailored support from subject experts in schools and experienced tutors in University, allowing you to work towards subject competencies and certification.

Assessment method
You will be assessed in a number of ways including work based on your classroom experience where you will demonstrate how to plan effectively, undertake assessment and to develop your subject knowledge. You will also carry out assessments and assignments such as verbal presentations, posters, essays and practical notebooks. As you progress from observer to teacher in school, you will be assessed through lesson observation reports. Your professional development will be mapped against the Teachers’ Standards (2012) for the award of QTS. There are no formal written examinations as part of the current assessment methods on this programme.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Entry requirements
Qualification requirements
To join this course you must hold a relevant HND/HNC or Part1 (120 credits at Level 4) of a degree programme, plus GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or Grade 4 or above (or equivalent). You are expected to have a a commitment to, and understanding, of secondary education, demonstrating the personal attributes, values and motivation required to train as a teacher.
