Course summary
Supervisors, available for MPhil and PhD research are available specialising in the following areas: heritage and public history / the uses of the past within cultures and societies; historiography / how history is written and understood; early and late medieval settlement and landscape; Christianity and the early Church; early medieval economies; British later prehistory; food history and archaeology; material culture studies.
Assessment method
For an MPhil the students are required to demonstrate that they can conduct an original investigation, test ideas (those of their own and others) and understand the relationship between the topic investigated and the wider field of knowledge. For a PhD, in addition to the above, the student's thesis should also make an original contribution to knowledge or understanding in their field of study.
Entry requirements
Good Honours degree in computing or computing science; experience of an object-oriented programming language; non-standard applicants are considered on their merit; overseas students whose native language is not English: IELTS 6.5.
