Delivered at Wiltshire College and University Centre's Salisbury campus, the aim of this course is to prepare you for work in a scientific environment, such as Biological, Biochemical or Chemical. Although you could enter the world of work with your Foundation Degree, there is the opportunity to top-up your skills and knowledge to a BSc (Bachelor’s degree) after a third year of study. Year one of the FdSc in Biomedical Science lays the foundation for the units in years two and three. The number of students at any one year will be relatively small so everyone will have maximum support from each module and personal tutor. There’s a module in year one to help you research current topics in your area of study. Although there is no work experience as part of the course, there is a Work Related Project to be completed in year two which may require you to liaise with a local company or organisation and apply your knowledge to a live, relevant topic or issue. Overall, the course is intended to produce students who are ‘fit for work’ with the theoretical and practical knowledge which would benefit any employer in the biomedical science field.
