This undergraduate programme is accredited by the Animal Health Professions’ Register and recognised by the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists for membership . It is also accredited by the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP). The course will provide the knowledge and skills for you to become a veterinary services professional and work closely with veterinary surgeons. Physiotherapy following veterinary referral can help animals recover from a variety of conditions such as back pain, sprains, strains, fractures and sporting injuries. It can also be used following orthopaedic, neurological or general surgery, as well as improve biomechanics and athletic ability. As such its use within the veterinary field is increasing. Animals can undergo a wide range of treatments including manual techniques, electrotherapies and exercise therapy. 4 years (full-time) including a one-year work placement. A three year programme is available for applicants with at least two years, full-time relevant work experience. Please contact Admissions for further information on this option.

Assessment method
Each module you study is assessed through a combination of written or oral individual assignments, group projects, and summative written examinations as is the normal for most university courses. This course, as with other clinical taught courses, also uses practical competency tests (OSPEs/OSCEs) to assess your ability to carry out practical tasks that are relevant to the veterinary physiotherapist. The requirements for entry to NAVP membership include successful completion of the course and of the Skills Enhancement Log (SELs) which are a record of competency of practical skills focused on Veterinary Physiotherapy.

Please note our work experience requirements apply equally to all applicants and exceptions cannot be made. Work experience must be completed within the same application cycle and if an applicant chooses to defer their entry, a "gap year" cannot be used to gain the required experience to meet the conditions of any offer. A minimum of 4 weeks hands-on work experience with dogs and horses (two weeks with each), carried out since September 2021 and supported by references, is required. Applicants who are made an offer must provide evidence of their experience by 3rd July of the application cycle. Work experience can be gained across several locations if necessary, and doesn’t have to be completed as a continuous block. Although useful, you are not required to see practice with a Veterinary Physiotherapist.
