Study Finance and Investment at Kent Business School to gain a strong knowledge of financial principles and techniques, and the confidence necessary to work the trading floor via our real-life simulator, The Bloomberg Lab. Our degree is accredited with the CFA to ensure that you’ll graduate with the necessary expertise, skills and experience to put a sought-after career in banking, investment or risk management within your reach. You’ll learn about finance and investment, its role in business and society, and explore core elements of the subject such as financial fundamentals, principles and markets, and explore topics such as data analysis, econometrics, derivatives, portfolio and risk management. You can also choose to focus on specialist areas such as business law and corporate strategy or learn more about new and developing areas of finance like FinTech. You take a Year in Industry following your second year of study, enabling you to apply your expertise in a work setting while earning a salary. Modules
Stage 1 Your first year is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in the understanding of finance and investment such as economics for business, quantitative methods, an introduction to data analysis and statistics, the fundamentals of finance and investments and the fundamentals of accounting. Stage 2 Your second year becomes more specialised, allowing you to develop your critical thinking of accounting and finance with greater emphasis on the key concepts and theories to develop intellectual agility and provides an opportunity to apply theory to practice. Year in Industry: All students spend a year in industry in the UK or internationally, supported by a dedicated Employability and Placement teams. The programme is designed to ensure that students gain experience in the functional areas and industries of their choice. Unique to KBS, students can take a Self-Employed Placement year during which they develop their initial business idea into a feasible business plan. The ‘Selfie’ programme students are supported by an in-house entrepreneur who acts as their specialist mentor. Stage 3 Your final year allows you to develop your specialist knowledge of finance and investment with flexibility to choose modules covering topics such as business law and employment rights, behavioural finance and consultancy skills and practice. There is also a detailed research project as an option as part of this final stage.
