Course summary

The importance of agriculture and food to the nation has been demonstrated more than ever over the last few years. Where the country gets its food and how it is produced is becoming ever more complex and with it comes industry demand for qualified recruits. Agriculture and the associated industries are big businesses in the UK and abroad and once studied can be your passport into employment or further enrichment overseas. Industry links form a critical part of our course with regular visits, guest speakers and workshops from sector specialists. The course covers technical and managerial aspects of modern agriculture and areas of study may include: • Animal Production Systems • Agricultural Finance and Technology • Animal Health and Food Safety • Crop Management and Sustainable Processes • Livestock Management • The Environment and the Law • Business Diversification and Marketing. Teaching and Assessment The modules are assessed through a combination of coursework and formal examination. Coursework could include written/practical reports, in-class tests, case studies, essays, oral presentations, posters or a project which allows independent research in a topic of interest, developed with staff on the course. Progression Opportunities Successful completion of the Foundation Degree will provide you with the opportunity to progress and top-up your qualification to a BSc (Hons) Degree. This course will prepare you well for employment in the industry in positions such as farm manager, rural surveyor, unit manager, farm contractor or senior herdsperson.
