Course summary
Overview The course involves an extended (one-year) individual research project carried out as part of one of our established research groups, combined with selected taught modules. This programme offers students the chance to undertake an advanced masters programme through an extended research project. This programme is suitable for outstanding students who have an interest in advanced research-based study in one of our research specialisms: Computer Vision; Cognitive Science; Risk and Information Management (RIM); Computer Science Theory; Game AI; and Computational Creativitiy. The expectation is that every graduate from the degree will publish at least one conference paper as part of their research. It will give you solid theoretical and practical research competence in your chosen field of study and will enhance your employability. Successful completion of the programme may also provide a route to further study at doctoral level or for a research position in industry. This programme will:
- Give you a basis for further study.
- Allow you to specialize in an area of your choosing.
- Give you a free choice from all the modules available, which are suitable to your project.
Assessment method
Modules are assessed through a combination of coursework and written examinations. You will also be assessed through an individual project. The MSc research project will be conducted under close supervision throughout the academic year, and is evaluated by thesis, presentation and viva examination.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have an honours degree (minimum 2.1) in a relevant subject. Students should identify in their application the relevant research group. Offers are subject to the agreement of a suitable research proposal. This programme requires ATAS clearance. Students who are not EEA or Swiss nationals may require ATAS clearance to undertake this course. The CAH3 code for this course is CAH11-01-01. Further information on ATAS can be found on our Advice and Counselling webpages. You should possess a good honours degree (minimum upper second class) in a relevant subject. In your application you should identify the relevant research group. Offers are subject to the agreement of a suitable research proposal. For international students we require English language qualifications IELTS 6.5, TOEFL score of 92 (internet based).
