Course summary
This course focusses on developing competencies for the workshop which will ultimately support students in preparing for a range of employment opportunities in their chosen sector. These core competencies collectively summarise the key capabilities that are important across the sector, covering areas of relevant expertise and technical skills that would be required within the sector to successfully perform a job, as defined in current advertised job vacancies. The course has professional body recognition with both the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). By aligning to professional body competency standards, content and assessment supports students to develop as professional practitioners for the future. The course can also lead to a higher-level apprenticeship in your desired mechatronics field.

Assessment method
All units are assessed by assignments; each unit assignment is matched to the content of the unit and the criteria being assessed. Each unit will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels, and then the unit grades will be aggregated by the awarding organisation to give an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the whole qualification. Pearson-set units are mandatory and target industry-specific skills. For the HNC, our college will assess one compulsory Pearson-set unit targeted at particular skills. This is a Level 4 core unit carrying 15 credits.
