Course summary

This dual-award programme is fully accredited by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), giving full exemption against their Level 7 Advanced Diploma in HRM. It will prepare you for a senior leadership position in HR, giving you the tools you need to distinguish yourself from the competition and the expertise needed to shape the HR agenda in any sector. You’ll gain insights into the activities, functions and environment of an organisation, and how HR functions can make a key contribution to its success. The programme will give you a comprehensive grounding in the core disciplines of HR practice, including:

  • Leading
  • Developing and managing people
  • Employee relations
  • Employment law
On successful completion, you will automatically gain associate level of CIPD professional membership which will entitle you to use ‘Associate CIPD’ after your name. This will demonstrate your professional credibility to future employers in an increasingly competitive global graduate labour market. All students are required to join the CIPD as a student member within one month of commencing the course, and for successful graduates the CIPD joining fee and first-year membership fee are paid by the University as an additional benefit for our students. As a member of the CIPD you will have the ability to attend local events, opportunities to network with senior professionals and executives, access various training and development activities. The programme can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis. Students with a PG Diploma in a Human Resources discipline from another approved institution can top-up to Master's level by undertaking the Dissertation module on a part-time basis; CIPD professional membership is not available on this award. Modules

Compulsory modules: human resource management in context; leading, managing and developing people; employment law; developing skills for business leadership; human resource development; employee relations; research methods. Elective modules: coaching and leadership development; diversity in work and organisations; management of change.

Assessment method

Assessment is by a combination of written examinations, assignments, group projects and presentations.

Entry requirements

A degree, not necessarily in business and management, from an approved university. Exceptional candidates without the usual academic qualifications but with appropriate professional qualifications may be admitted on their merit. There is no requirement for previous work experience. Minimum IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

World Bank low-income or low to middle income economy countries: £2,000 scholarship Academic Excellence scholarships: 15 scholarships of £1,000 available as a fee reduction to the highest achieving students with at least a first-class Honours in their undergraduate studies, or the European equivalent. Ma Kam Ming Scholarship Fund: The Ma Kam Ming Scholarship Fund supports up to 4 scholarships for full-time postgraduate study leading to the degree of MSc, at the School of Management, from permanent residents of Hong Kong or citizens of China in 2014/15. Postgraduate Bursary: UK or EU students applying to study a full-time Masters or research postgraduate programme, who have recently graduated from an undergraduate programme in England, and have received support towards their fees from the Local Authority or the Student Loans Company in their final year of undergraduate study at their previous university may be eligible for a Postgraduate Bursary of £500. Alumni discount: self funded or part-self funded Bradford alumni applying to study a full-time or part-time Master's programme, whether studied in Bradford or at one of our partner institutions, will qualify for a discount on the self-funded element of their fees. Awards for company-sponsored study: a business relationship bursary of up to 35% on any company-sponsored or part-sponsored Master’s course is available for companies with whom the School has a relationship or demonstrated business engagement. The amount would depend on the strength of the relationship, which might include companies who have previously funded a student on a Bradford programme, employed an undergraduate placement, MSc or MBA student to undertake a project, employed a member of faculty to produce a KTP or research project, commissioned a customised Executive Education programme, or supported the School in other ways, but this list is not exhaustive and other business engagement activities could be considered eligible.
