Course summary

From Shakespeare, contemporary literature and literary theory to Derrida, Freud and creative and critical writing – we welcome PhD applications in a wide range of areas. Over 90% of all English faculty research has been graded as world leading in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014 REF). As a doctoral student, you’ll be supervised by academics who lead in their fields of study.

You’re normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60% overall) in a Masters degree. Your qualification should be in a subject relevant to your chosen area of research. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
