Course summary
The cultural industries, such as the film industry, have the potential to bridge the perceived gap between culture and commerce through enhancing cultural life and generating wealth. This MA provides a framework for you to analyse the contemporary cultural sector, and study film policy in a variety of national and global contexts. Areas of study could include film festivals, specialist film programming, film policy, film exhibition, marketing and audience development, and the role of private and public film agencies. You'll examine the importance of film in society and how it shapes influences public policies (politically, socially and economically) while developing your own research interests.

Assessment method
The primary assessment method for testing your knowledge and understanding is a 4-4,500-word essay or equivalent for each module, the topic normally decided in consultation with the module tutor. Oral presentations delivered as part of the Cultural Management and Research Skills modules are also formally assessed. The 15,000 word dissertation is a core element in establishing the acquisition of appropriate skills and the application of research techniques. Your Masters tutor will be available to provide regular and supportive advice, guidance and feedback on your progress.

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in an arts-related subject.
