Based within our Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, this research programme covers a wide range of research activities, characterised by collaboration and inter-disciplinarity. Our strength lies in the breadth and depth of our research, encompassing Francophone research to China studies. PhD students are valued colleagues in our research community, and their work reflects the diversity of the work of the whole faculty. Broadly, our research is grouped in the following areas: Contemporary China Centre; Francophone Studies Research Group; HOMELandS - Hub for Migration, Exiles, Languages and Spaces; Translating Cultures; War and Culture.
Applicants should have a minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent and preferably a master's degree (or masters degree pending). Applicants whose first degree has not been studied in English should have IELTS score of 7.0 with not less than 6.5 in any of the individual components. Applicants need to submit a research proposal of 2,000–3,500 words. It should include a title of proposed research, identify discipline and formulate research questions clearly. It should also include proposed research methodology and plan of work and time schedule. Two academic references are required.
