Course summary

The International community is seeking to develop inclusive, equitable and quality education for all by 2030. This programme offers you the opportunity to consider how this will be achieved. A highlight for both international and Scottish students is the opportunity to work together as they seek to support all learners. WHY THIS PROGRAMME This programme has been developed to encourage practitioners to develop and deepen their knowledge and experience in the area of inclusive education by critically engaging with research, policy and practice. Our courses will support learners to critically engage with the concepts of Special and Inclusive Education, Additional Support for Learning (ASL), Special Educational Needs (SEN) with a view to develop practitioners who are committed to the development of equitable and socially just education contexts. Our research-informed courses cover topics such as disability, autism, behavior, labelling, gifted and talented, dyslexia, inclusive pedagogy, curriculum, Universal Design for Learning, equity and educational disadvantage. The learning processes are intended to assisting practitioners to gain confidence in their ability to create positive, inclusive environments for learners in current, rapidly changing educational contexts. The MEd/ PGDip/ PGCert in Inclusive Education: Research, Policy and Practice has been designed to meet the needs of national and international practitioners who can complete their degrees as full-time or part-time students. You can tailor research projects to provide the maximum relevance and benefit to your interests and work. PROGRAMME STRUCTURECourses are delivered through a combination of lecture and seminar sessions which encourage practitioners to reflect on their experiences and to critically engage with theory, research, policy and practice. The diverse student population (home and international students who are class teachers from early years to secondary level, special education professionals, head teachers, education administrators, Higher Education lecturers) creates rich learning environments where we aim to create an inclusive ethos, in which collaboration, peer and active learning play a key role. Full-time students are expected to complete their degree (180 credits) in 1 year and to select the day courses (SM01). Part-time students can be enrolled in 3 different routes (which can build on one another): PGCert: 60 credits, 12 months (1 year)PGDip: 120 credits, 24 months (2 years) MEd: 180 credits, up to 60 months (5 years) Core courses THE EVOLVING CONCEPT OF INCLUSION THE LEARNER AND THE CURRICULUM (DLS) INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL RESEARCH MODERN EDUCATIONAL THOUGHT PRACTITIONER ENQUIRY; DEVELOPING INCLUSIVE PEDAGOGYT The programme runs in different modalities, it is important that you select the option that is most appropriate for your situation (SM01 = day, SM02 = evening, SM03 = distance). All course codes should be added: SM01 for day time/ full time students SM02 for evening students SM03 for distance students Optional courses may include DEVELOPING LITERACY HIGHLY ABLE LEARNERS, RAISING ATTAINMENT & ACHIEVEMENT IDENTITIES, RELATIONSHIPS AND BEHAVIOURS INCLUSIVE CLASSROOMS, INCLUSIVE PEDAGOGIES

Entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree or non-UK equivalent (e.g. a GPA of 3.0 or above) in Education related subjects. Experience of working in educational contexts (e.g. class teachers from early years, primary or secondary education, special education professionals, head teachers and other professionals in educational leadership roles, education administrators, Higher Education lecturers) with an interest in inclusive education and responding to student diversity in equitable and socially just ways.
