Entry requirements
Qualification requirements
Interview: Candidates will be required to demonstrate, in a performance audition, ability in an instrument or voice and display musical awareness and skill. Applicants with high levels of performance skills may be considered for a lower academic offer. The University welcomes mature applicants who may not have the standard entry requirements listed here. As an alternative, a 'non-standard entry portfolio' may be set for the applicant to complete in order to demonstrate their readiness for higher education.

Audition
We would like to hear you individually performing a short piece (about 3 minutes). Singing or playing in front of an audience, especially a critical one - is something that makes everyone feel a little anxious, so choose something that you feel shows you at your best and represents a style of music you feel comfortable with. If your piece has an accompaniment part, please bring this along so that our pianists can astonish you with their sight-reading ability (please don’t bring photocopies unless you have written permissions for these from the copyright holder). Alternatively, if you do not play an instrument or sing but compose music, please bring an example(s) of your works on CD. There is a charge for the audition of £30.

The standard entry requirement for this programme is IELTS 6.0 with no element lower than 5.5. However, you can begin your 3-year degree programme with IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
Further details of our international entry requirements can be found on our website.
