Our Fashion Design MA is for those who want to take control of their design direction, follow their passion and gain the skills and knowledge needed to launch a successful career in the fashion industry. Northumbria has been delivering fashion education for over 60 years, and this course will allow you to benefit from industry links that are second to none. Taught by academics who have worked as successful designers for some of the world’s biggest brands, you will to create your own personal journey exploring design issues and developing the advanced practical skills which will allow you to work effectively as a design change-maker. Created in consultation with our collaborative partners, our Fashion Design MA has been developed specifically to respond to industry needs, and you will have the opportunity to learn from innovative designers and big fashion brands. As well as producing world-class designers, this programme is the perfect preparation for a wide range of careers within the fashion and wider creative industries.

Assessment method

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.


Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have: A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in a relevant discipline. Applicants with appropriate work experience and/or a relevant professional qualification will be considered. Applicants are required to submit an online portfolio with their application.
