Course summary
New for 2022 Policing is now a degree-entry level profession and we are now able to offer this specific ‘pre-join’ qualification to support the ‘pre-degree’ entry route into the Police Service in England and Wales (one of three entry routes). This degree programme meets the professional requirements for policing in the 21st century and is the only recognised pre-degree qualification for any student considering the ‘pre-degree’ route into the police service. The degree has a currency of 5 years following graduation, for recruitment in to policing. Studying the Degree in Professional Policing may also benefit those considering a career in non PC roles in policing, for those seeking to understand how society is policed, who have an interest in law enforcement or want to enter the wider justice sector and prison service. You’ll develop an understanding of policing across different perspectives, in areas such as crime, criminality, victims and vulnerability whilst having the opportunity to volunteer with the local police service, West Mercia Police, building on your practical policing experience throughout your degree. Key features
- Gain the essential knowledge, skills, values and behaviours for the ‘pre-degree’ entry route into a police service.
- Our team of policing practitioners, criminologists and law lecturers will provide you with a wide understanding of the Criminal Justice Sector and policing through inclusive, engaging and interactive teaching methods.
- Benefit from the University’s strong relationship with local police forces, meeting serving officers and staff and working alongside them in volunteer roles as you study.
- Ideal degree for those wishing to join a police service, prison service or other law enforcement agency – including the National Crime Agency or Intelligence Services – or other Criminal Justice agencies working alongside law enforcement agencies.
