Course summary
Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and endorsed by the Health and Care Professionals Council, this course enables those who hold the BPS Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) to complete Stage 1 training to become a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist. Students learn how to deal with complex issues including the initial assessment of clients, maintaining professional boundaries and analysing complex data sets.
Modules
Core modules: Contemporary issues in sport psychology; psychology of exercise and health; professional practice in sport and exercise psychology; learning and development in sport and exercise; practicum; research methods; major independent study.
Entry requirements
Applicants should either have a 2nd Class Honours degree in the cognate subjects of sport and exercise science, physical sciences, physical activity, health sciences, psychology, physiotherapy, sports therapy, sports coaching, physical education or medicine, a 2nd Class Honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum 6.0 in each component) or equivalent.
