Course summary
A University of Hertfordshire research degree is an internationally recognised degree signifying high levels of achievement in research. It develops extensive subject expertise and independent research skills which are honed over an extended period, depending on the level of the award. The topic of research will depend upon your specific interests and the expertise of available academic staff. Current topics include, but are not limited to:

- small island geopolitics
- diplomatic geographies

- transport and transport planning
- urbanism and urban planning
- rural planning
- traditional irrigation
- children’s geographies
- geographies of diversity and inequalities
Entry requirements
In most circumstances, we would expect an upper second-class honours degree in geography or a related field (for example international relations, planning, etc.), and/or a master's level qualification in geography or a cognate area. However, do please contact Professor John Sturzaker to discuss your individual circumstances as, for example, relevant industrial experience may be considered. An IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent is required for overseas students.
