Modules
The foundation element is is a one-year course. You'll take five modules over two semesters, with 18-20 hours of taught time each week. Text Project: In this module you’ll explore the processes and skills required to interpret a text. Initial classes will cover various approaches and what you can take from each of them to build your own approach. A core part of this module will be voice classes to expand and strengthen your range of vocal expression when interpreting text. The Text Project will be the rehearsal of a play or scenes. You’ll learn how to rehearse professionally, how to put your acting process into practice and how to develop a character. Audition Preparation: You’ll learn how to approach both professional and drama school auditions. We'll work with you to find material that best demonstrates your skills and qualities; you’ll learn what auditioners are looking for, audition techniques including sight reading and self-taping. Study Skills: The module explores the writing skills you’ll need to research effectively and analyse and evaluate your practice. It's a preparation for thinking and expressing yourself at a Higher Education level. You’ll undertake an evaluation of a personal project and a short research task. Creating a Devised Theatre Production: In this module you’ll create a piece of theatre from stimulus rather than the interpretation of a text. It develops the skills that help you understand how fundamental movement is to the acting process, and culminates in a small-scale public performance. Foundation Project: The Foundation Project is a fully staged production in a professional theatre in Bristol. It’s the culmination of your learning and aims to bring together all the aspects of your emerging practice. You’ll be in full-time rehearsal five days a week, and the experience will mirror that of a professional actor in a professional production. Undergraduate degree: On successful completion of the Boomsatsuma Foundation in Acting, you'll progress to BA (Hons) Acting at Bath Spa University.
