Course summary
This two-year programme is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and expertise necessary to enter a career in event management. Additionally, it will develop your understanding of the role of business in society and develop knowledge of the main functional areas; accounting, marketing and human resources. You will develop an understanding of how to manage different events within different areas, such as sports, tourism, arts and theatre. You will examine the importance of incorporating health, safety and security issues into event planning and design as well as identifying potential risks and proposed solutions. You will also look at the importance of event management within society and analyse the political, economic and environmental costs and benefits of events. You don’t need any prior knowledge of business studies or accounting before choosing this subject. You will gain a broad introduction to the subject in your first year and study more specialist subjects in the second year. You will also be able to work on a work based learning project, giving you hands-on experience. The benefits of studying a Foundation Degree at one of our partner colleges in Hertfordshire includes intensive tutorial support, easy access to tutors, small class sizes and use of all of the facilities on the University Campus in addition to the first class facilities at the college. You have access to our Learning Resources Centres open 24/7(during term time), Hertfordshire Sports Village, StudyNet – a virtual learning environment providing online course materials - and our Students’ Union, where you can join a club, meet new people and enjoy a taste of university social life. Did you know that course fees are lower for a Foundation Degree than for an Honours degree? Studying for a Foundation Degree with us gives you the best of all worlds. You gain a nationally recognised higher education qualification with a clear emphasis on practical work-based learning, personal development and employability – and benefit from a route on to a full honours degree, whilst saving money at the same time!
