Course summary
Study Arabic and Portuguese from beginner level and explore cultures and societies across the world. A combination of core and optional modules will give you a firm grounding in the languages while you study topics that suit your interests, such as Islamic thought, film and literature in the Portuguese-speaking world, national identity and the African diaspora. You'll gain advanced communication skills in these two languages whilst also developing an insight into the history, politics and cultures of the Middle East, North Africa and Latin American countries. You'll spend a year abroad in an Arabic-speaking country and a term in a Portuguese-speaking country, giving you the opportunity to practise your language skills and gain first-hand experience of local culture. By studying two major world languages, you'll develop a range of transferable skills which are highly regarded by employers. These include critical thinking, enhanced communication, analytical and cultural awareness skills.
