Course summary
Course overview: This course includes an integrated masters - you study three years at undergraduate level and one year at postgraduate level. The demand for clean energy specialists is on the rise. Study the production, storage and transmission of energy, focusing on renewable energy and transition fuels, ready for a career in this growing sector. According to the World Meteorological Organization, the supply of clean energy needs to double by 2030 if the world is to reach net zero targets by 2050, and the number of jobs in renewables is expected to reach 42m globally in this time. You learn fundamental mechanical and electrical engineering principles and develop expertise in sustainable energy and clean technologies. Explore solar, wind, geothermal and tidal energy systems, transition fuels such as hydrogen, power storage, and distribution technologies. You also gain commercial awareness, developing planning and project management skills to keep up to date with net zero innovation. Top reasons to study this course 1. Quality teaching: learn from chartered engineers and hear from guest lecturers who have a wealth of industry experience. Our courses are developed in collaboration with industry to meet the needs of the sector. 2. Facilities: study in our fully equipped labs with the latest industry standard equipment. 3. Industry experience: get a foot on the career ladder and gain experience of working in the sector with an optional year in industry. 4. Maths support: strengthen your maths with a free online Mathematics for University course before you start your course. After the course: Energy engineers work on projects to reduce energy use or costs. They research, design and build power generation plants, power storage facilities, develop processes to reduce carbon emissions and minimise environmental damage. They also carry out site inspections and energy surveys.
