Course summary

Course Overview The BA(Hons) Games Design and Development is a comprehensive program that equips students with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for a career in the games design industry. The course encompasses a multi-disciplinary approach, encompassing the technical and theoretical aspects of game design and development. With a focus on the game development process, the program offers students an overview of the various domains within the industry, including narrative design, technical design, and level design pipelines. The course curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in design and production within the games industry, and to impart a thorough understanding of the industry's production methodologies and business practices. The course is implemented using a Universal Design for Learning framework, which promotes inclusive education and accommodates the diverse needs of all students. The course places emphasis on three key areas within game design:

  • Storytelling and World-Building
  • Game Mechanics and Design Principles
  • Technical Design
In addition, students have the opportunity to delve into supplementary areas such as programming and art processes, collaborating with students from related courses.

Sponsorship information

For UK domiciled applicants, undergraduate degree scholarships can be applied for, and are awarded on merit to applicants from low-income households (below £25,000) providing tuition fee support during the length of study.
