Learn to design and implement sound using cutting edge technologies on this pioneering, professionally targeted degree. Bringing together the most exciting aspects of art, science, technology and engineering, this course will equip you with everything you need to work in the rapidly evolving audio industry. Whether you’re interested in music, film and TV, video games, animation or apps, this is your chance to train and work at the forefront of your field and transform your passion into real-world skills. In addition to working on a number of innovative projects, you will have access to a substantial guest lecture programme, offering you the chance to learn from and connect with diverse industry professionals from the UK and beyond. Over the three years, you will explore all aspects of audio creation, manipulation and implementation, helping you to develop your sonic signature and build a professional portfolio to showcase your abilities. You will work on a range of cutting-edge projects including the development of your own audio production tool. Modules could include: Year one Your first year will provide you with all the necessary skills to start building your portfolio. You will learn how to run complex studio sessions, record audio for a range of projects, design original sound content and start programming. You will learn how to problem-solve quickly and make artistic decisions with confidence, all the while working with industry-standard hardware and software. Modules ● Studio Practice ● Introduction to Programming ● Sound Culture ● Mixing ● Synthesis & Sound Design ● Industry Foundations Year two In your second year, you will be given the opportunity to work across a range of projects from film and television briefs to game audio content, helping to build your skills and knowledge. You will focus on working with immersive sound to develop spatial audio content and enhancing your coding skills alongside working on a commercial project. Modules ● Recording for Film ● Nonlinear Audio & Middleware ● Creative Coding ● Spatial Audio ● Industry Practice ● Research Practice Year three This is your chance to work on your own projects and push the boundaries of sound design within a specific field. You’ll be given the flexibility to work across a range of projects and encouraged to explore avenues at the forefront of modern sound design with employment or further study in mind. We regret that this course is not available to international applicants who would require a Student Visa. If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate English language skills that are sufficiently developed for successful completion of your studies. We accept a range of recognised English language qualifications that are equivalent to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
