University Centre Leeds, Leeds City College has opted into the TEF and received a Bronze award.
This top-up course is designed to allow students to build knowledge and experience to find their place in the world of computer game design and development. Working across a number of disciplines, students will experience the full range of job roles in the game industry and gain an understanding of how these roles work together to produce innovative, engaging games. You will be given the opportunity to work across a wide range of computer games platforms, learning to create assets using industry standard software and implement those assets into the game engines used by industry professionals. You will also be developed as a creative individual, learning to appreciate and apply the artistic and narrative techniques that form the core of games as an aesthetic experience. You will become well versed in the real world of computer games, learning how the past, present and future of computer games are vital to your career and personal development. You will have the opportunity to devise your own game mechanics, 2D assets and 3D models, developing skills in a number of creative and technical disciplines to create well realised, playable games. There will be a strong emphasis on professional development and employability, encouraging students to work to industry standards in real world contexts. The Games Industry generates upwards of $100bn per year worldwide, there is clearly a demand for graduates with a Degree in Games.
Level 6 The focus of this programme is to prepare students for working in the industry in either an employed or freelance capacity. You will choose a specialist practical area to develop your skills in that specific field and develop a body of practical work that will form the basis of a professional portfolio. Modules are likely to include: Major Project (40 Credits) Indie Game level (40 Credits) Research Project (20 Credits) Indie Game Enterprise (20 Credits)
You will assessed in a variety of ways including: practical tasks, portfolios, essays, case studies and presentations.

A typical offer is likely to be 55% average at Foundation Degree or a Merit profile in a relevant HND, together with 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English (Maths isn't required). International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria. Speakers of other languages need to have an IELTS score of at least 6.0 or a recognised level 2 English qualification. All students must be able to demonstrate either by qualifications or testing that they have the required literacy skills to complete the course. All students are to present a portfolio and supporting academic text. This is undertaken during an interview or correspondence for distance applicants.
