Course summary

The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) is the graduate entry route to those who want to become a Primary or Secondary teacher in Scotland. The PGDE is an internationally recognised qualification, newly qualified teachers will be able to apply for qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent in their home country. Why PGDE Business Education at Strathclyde? This course is a professional training course which qualifies you to teach secondary education. The qualification is recognised throughout the world and is regulated by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and the Scottish Government. You learn from on-campus classes and 18 weeks of placements in schools in Scotland. The qualification allows you to teach in locations worldwide. If you're a Scottish, rest of UK or EU student, you're guaranteed a job for one year in a Scottish school after you graduate. Your Career A degree in education will equip you for a range of careers working with children and young people. Most of our PGDE graduates go on to work as teachers in secondary schools across the country. Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

An honours degree in business and management, or international equivalent. Ordinary degrees are accepted when accompanied by two years of full-time (or equivalent) relevant experience. Degree must include: a minimum of 40 SCQF credits at SCQF level 7 or above, and 40 SCQF credits at SCQF level 8 or above, from the following subjects: 15 credits in accounting, 15 credits in economics, remaining credits coming from modules relevant to the business education school curriculum, for example, marketing, human resources, management. Masters-levels credits are not accepted. For IT qualifications, applications must be able to demonstrate evidence of study within 5 years of the course start date related to relevant Information Technology Skills. These include: Higher (SCQF Level 6) Administration & Information Technology Grade C or above, Higher (SCQF Level 6) Computing Science Grade C or above, PDA Information Technology in Business, Open University module TM111 Intro to Computing & IT 1, Advanced ECDL (minimum of 3 module passes), HNC/HND units in IT (minimum 3 credits).

Additional fee information

Undergraduate students who live in Scotland will usually have their tuition fees paid by the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS). If you have previously attended university or college or are not sure about your eligibility, you should contact SAAS to check your eligibility to have your fees paid. SAAS will pay your tuition fees directly to Strathclyde. Most undergraduate students from the rest of the UK (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) will receive a free year of tuition as, assuming no change in Rest of UK fees policy over the period, the total amount payable by undergraduate students will be capped. For students commencing study next session, this is capped at £27,750 (with the exception of the MPharm and Integrated Masters courses); MPharm students pay £9,250 for each of the four years. Students studying on Integrated Masters degree programmes pay an additional £9,250 for the Masters year with the exception of those undertaking a full-year industrial placement where a separate placement fee will apply.
