Course summary

Education is one of the fundamental building blocks of society. However, leading an educational organisation is becoming increasingly complex. This course will develop your essential leadership and management skillset. You'll conduct research that drives growth and enhances your professional practice to help you make a positive difference within the classroom or an education organisation. You'll engage in critical discussion and explore theories and issues underpinning effective leadership in a variety of educational contexts. You will also consider social, political, cultural and policy factors that may influence your leadership role. The course is ideal for those who wish to move into or progress in educational leadership roles. The course content has been influenced by research conducted by our own tutors. Their expertise and academic knowledge allows you to analyse different leadership styles and explore how they could affect your own practice. A key focus of the course is supporting practice-based inquiry and applying it to the way you work. With an advanced education degree from the University of Nottingham, you will graduate with all the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to pursue your career goals.

Modules

The taught element of this course is made up of four 30-credit modules, plus a 60-credit dissertation. It can be completed over one year full-time. There are PGDip and PGCert exit points.

Assessment method

Each 30-credit module is assessed by a 6,000-word written assignment. To complete the masters, you must achieve a pass of 50 on each assignment. The 15,000-word dissertation is an original piece of work and should be related to one or more of the selected modules on an approved topic.


Entry requirements

2:2 (or international equivalent) or a relevant professional qualification. A personal statement is required that demonstrates both a clear understanding of the course and relevant motivation for pursuing educational leadership and management studies plus, if possible, details of any relevant professional or work experience in an educational setting. IELTS: 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element).
