The Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D) in Business course is a nationally and internationally recognised qualification throughout the business world. It is aimed at students who want to continue their education through applied learning. If you choose to study your HNC/D Business with us at Sutton Coldfield College, part of BMet, you will be taking the next great step to an exciting career in the ever-changing world of business. The units have been chosen to give you a broad base of knowledge and skills in marketing, human resource management, finance, small business management and innovation and commercialisation. A distinctive feature of the course at Sutton Coldfield is the opportunity to develop highly sought-after skills in e-commerce and social media for business purposes. Successful students will be able to distinguish themselves in the labour market by offering potential employers a highly relevant skill set and contemporary knowledge base. Students will study the HNC (Level 4) course during the first year of study and upon successful completion of the HNC qualification students can progress on to the HND (Level 5) course during the second year of study. On successful completion of the HND qualification you may be eligible to progress into the second or third year of a subject related degree at a University. We offer smaller class sizes enabling supportive quality teaching and allows both one to one tuition and group work. This course has a competitive fee structure with flexible entry requirements based on your experience.
Modules
The HNC course consists of 8 modules, totalling 120 credits, titled: Accounting Principles Business and the Business Environment Entrepreneurial Ventures Human Resource Management Innovation and Commercialisation Leadership and Management Managing a Successful Business Project (Pearson-set) Marketing Processes and Planning
Assessment method
The course is delivered via lectures, workshops, tutorials, blended learning (a combination of traditional face-to-face and online learning). Assessment is through coursework, group discussion and individual and group presentations. The course is assessed using assessments written by the course team and there are two Pearson set assessments (one in each year of the course) which are marked by the course team and moderated by Pearson.
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

You are required to have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths. We will accept Level 2 equivalences for English and Maths in place of GCSEs. We encourage applications from students who do not meet the entry requirements outlined but can demonstrate ability through work experience, portfolio of evidence or successful interview.

If you do not meet the entry requirements outlined you may be asked to attend for an interview with the Admissions Tutor.
Institutions Own Test (IOT)
If you do not hold a Level 2 English and/or Maths qualification you maybe required to undertake an initial assessment to ascertain your current literacy and/or numeracy levels and/or a free writing assessment.
English language requirements
Students whose first language is not English must have a minimum standard of English at IELTS Level 5.5 with no element below 5.0.
