Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management

Course summary

Quantity surveyors are in high demand and earn attractive salaries. Studying USW's Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management course, you will learn skills and competencies that are directly relevant to industry practice and standards. Quantity surveyors understand all aspects of construction. They are the financial managers of the construction industry and need to manage costs effectively, while considering quality, sustainability and client needs. They are involved throughout projects, including all stages of the design, construction and operation of property developments, including residential, commercial, industrial and retail, as well as infrastructure projects such as roads, railways and airports. USW's Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). When you graduate, you'll have the skills and qualifications for a successful career in quantity surveying and commercial management, and be able to work towards corporate membership of the RICS. The Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management course is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, giving you further recognition for the skills you will develop during your studies. You will gain the skills to manage the range of tasks involved in a construction project, learn how to take responsibility for financial planning and management, and be able to overcome challenges associated with building costs. Your studies will cover industrial initiatives such as lifecycle costing, strategic partnering and collaboration, target cost contracts, dispute resolution and open-book accounting. To help you work towards continuous professional development, you will also learn how to apply critical thinking to your experiences. The Quantity Surveying course also includes projects delivered in partnership with employers and involves real-life case studies, which will help you develop key skills for the workplace. The Quantity Surveying degree is based in Treforest. USW Treforest is surrounded by green open spaces.
