The two year online MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine course is aimed at professionals working in a sports clinic environment. Students are taught to independently access information to critically assess, evaluate and disseminate the evidence based research. The MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine course is delivered by an innovative and experienced team who have an established international reputation in sports and exercise medicine.
Modules
This clinically-focussed Sports and Exercise Medicine course is designed to enhance professional skills and knowledge in sports and exercise medicine. The curriculum is based on the specialist training curriculum developed by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians. It therefore meets the highest standards for SEM education and would enhance national and international employability. MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine provides a progression route for the postgraduate sports and exercise medicine diploma course offered by the University. Year 1 •Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology of Sport and Exercise •Exercise and Sport in Relation to Chronic Disease and Populations •Common Sports Injuries and Investigation •Management and Rehabilitation Planning of Sports and Exercise Related Injuries •Injury Prevention, Rehabilitation and Return to Exercise •The Multidisciplinary Team in Exercise and Sport Year 2 •Research Methodologies and Critical Appraisal •Professional Project (10,500 words)
Assessment method
You will be assessed across the following components for the first module: Clinical case scenarios, with case-based discussion; Individual learning portfolio; Group/individual activity; Case-based examination. To produce the professional project, students continue to use the online course however much of the work is self directed. Students are expected in the first 8 weeks to interact with their tutor on a weekly basis. Once the proposal has been approved, the professional project is completed through online guidance and supervision offered by the tutor.
Entry requirements
An Honours degree at class 2:1 or above in a relevant Health based subject or Medicine/Physiotherapy. Accredited Prior Learning (APL) may be negotiated on an individual basis.
